Leaving Taos; two words Ialways regret to speak or even think about. Aspiritual, timeless space, filled with history, art and wonder. Fortunately for me, the road East out of town reveals breathtaking views; with romantic names like Angel Fire, Eagle Nest and Touch Me Not Mountain. Eventually this intensely visual experience, transports you back to the present and delivers you at a seventy-five mile an hour trail back to your known sense of now.
What is left, is the memory and feeling of this rugged, beautiful, and awe inspiring landscape. These characteristics are interpreted with thick, bold, layers of richly saturated color; a palette based more on feelings than realism. Applied with action, not baby steps; trekking the mountainside. Subtlety is lost in the natural drama of the mountain, and in my rendering of 'Fireside'.
